How to Read Before and After Photos Honestly
Judging results from photographs is harder than it looks, and four things are worth checking on any gallery.
Lighting and head position should match between the two images, because a change in either creates or removes shadow that has nothing to do with surgery. Ask how long after surgery each pair was taken, since a photograph at six weeks and one at six months tell you different things. Makeup should be consistent, as defined lashes in the after image and none in the before is a cosmetic difference rather than a surgical result. And look for patients whose starting point resembles yours, because that tells you far more than the most dramatic example on the page.
What Changes in Upper Eyelid Surgery Before and After Photos
Upper blepharoplasty before and after photos show more visible lid space above the lash line and an eye that reads as more open. The lid no longer rests on the lashes, and the crease sits where it did before the skin began to descend.

Where both lids are treated in the same procedure, the change is more noticeable than either alone, because the eye is framed differently above and below at the same time.
It is worth knowing that the two halves settle at different rates. The upper lid usually looks close to its final shape sooner, while the lower lid holds swelling longer, so at the two week mark a combined result can look slightly uneven. That evens out over the following weeks and is not a sign of a problem.
Combined procedures also extend the overall recovery period compared with treating one lid alone, which is worth factoring in when you plan time away from work.
Blepharoplasty Results: What to Expect
Photographs taken too early do not show the result, which is why the interval matters. At six weeks the eye area is close to its final shape and the scar is still fading. At six months the scar has usually settled into the lid crease and the result is stable, which is why six month photographs are the most representative and the interval most worth asking about when you look at any clinic's gallery.
What a photograph cannot show you is your own starting point.
